You may find the wide range of market stalls unusual at first, but fear not! The range of products is typical of Mallorca's weekly markets: from fresh food to clothing, jewelry, bags, household items, crockery, and small electrical appliances. In addition, there are all kinds of curious things to discover, and at many stalls, curious market visitors are even allowed to snack and try out things. The fruit and vegetables offered are of the best quality, sourced directly from the surrounding area.
As the market has become increasingly popular among tourists, many traders have adapted to the situation and have at least rudimentary knowledge of English or German. However, in recent years, the quality of the goods offered has declined. The stalls are now flooded with cheaply produced souvenirs and gifts that are sold at overpriced prices.
Pere Garau
Pere Garau is a charming neighborhood located to the northeast of Palma's city center. It's only a 15-minute walk from Plaza Mayor, but surprisingly few tourists make their way here. While there aren't any major attractions or stunning architecture to see, the local flavor and authentic atmosphere make up for it.
If you're looking for an authentic market experience in Palma, I highly recommend checking out Mercat Pere Garau. Not only are the prices more affordable compared to Mercat Olivar or Mercat Santa Catalina, but you'll also find a bustling market hall open from Monday to Saturday starting at 6:00 am until about 3:00 pm.
On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, the market is especially lively as additional stalls are set up outside the hall. The energy is infectious as shoppers browse the vendors, and the air is filled with the delightful aroma of fresh herbs. You'll find a variety of fruits and vegetables, flowers and plants, and even some locally-sourced products from Mallorca (which are naturally more expensive). Prices can vary from stall to stall, but overall, you'll find the prices at Mercat Pere Garau to be very reasonable and much cheaper than in the city center.

Alcúdia
In Alcúdia, the weekly market is simply amazing, stretching over a large part of the old town, from the large central parking lot to the narrow streets of the city. You'll be impressed by the historical city wall, as many stands line up along it. The market is open every Tuesday and Sunday, from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm. Even though Alcúdia is not as heavily influenced by tourism as other coastal towns in Mallorca, the weekly market still primarily serves to supply the local population, making it a genuine experience.
Port d'Alcúdia also holds a smaller market every Friday, and it's worth checking out. About thirty market stalls offer food from 9 am to 2 pm on the Plaça de Vicari. The selection is much smaller than at the large weekly market in Alcúdia, but there's still a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, sausages, and cheeses to discover. The market is perfect for both tourists and locals!

Andratx
So, every Wednesday, things get wild in Andratx. Crowds of people push through the streets, the whole main road of the town is closed, and a handful of traffic police try to keep track of the colorful hustle and bustle. But don't worry, it's all for a good reason: the weekly market in Andratx! Local traders come out to sell their goods to residents and a bunch of tourists from 8am to 2pm. You can find the market stalls right in the central Plaza below the church and spread out into the heart of the city.
And the best part? During the morning hours, it stays shady under the pergolas that stretch between the walls of the houses. The town of Andratx gives a charming Mediterranean backdrop for the market activity. And let's not forget about the volume of the vendors, who don't hold back at all during negotiations, giving you an authentically Mallorcan experience!

Artá
Yo, check it out! Every Tuesday, until around 1:30 pm, the market goes down in the charming little town of Artá. The stalls set up shop around the Plaça del Conquerodor, clearing the way for the pedestrian zone. It's a dope setting, with the fly townhouses of Artá all around. The local artisans get all the love, selling their goods right in the middle of the theater square. For all the foodies out there, you can cop some fresh fruits, veggies, eggs, and other goodies at the market hall, which is kinda hidden away on Carrer Nou.
Artá is the place to be. They got the high-quality shops on the main drag and the diverse range of handicrafts at the market stalls. It's a dope combo that draws mad visitors every week. Over the past few years, the weekly market went from unknown to mad popular.
Once you've had your fill of the market scene, take a chill break. There are a bunch of chill cafes on the outskirts of the colorful hustle and bustle. You can kick it in their outdoor seating area and peep all the market action going down on the central square.

Calvia
Welcome to the charming town of Calviá! Every Monday, you can experience an amazing old-established market that has been a tradition for years. Calviá is the center of a large municipality that is easily accessible from popular tourist resorts on the southwest coast of Mallorca. With about 60 sales booths, visitors can discover a variety of goods from 8 am to 1 pm along Carrer Major. The picturesque backdrop of the impressive parish church in the wealthy town of Calviá makes it one of the most beautiful markets on the island.
When you visit the Calviá market, be sure to keep an eye out for leather shoes. Although the goods offered for sale at the market stalls are similar to those in local shops, they often include discounted discontinued models as part of the offer. Don't miss out on this great opportunity to find unique treasures!

Mercat de l'Olivar, Palma's oldest market
The Mercat Oliver in Palma de Mallorca is a great place to enjoy local specialties and fresh food. In this bustling market, you can find everything from fresh fruits and vegetables to meat, fish, and cheese. But it's not just the food that's great here, the atmosphere is wonderful too and you can easily get lost in the aisles full of food.
Recently, the market has witnessed the arrival of a new stand operated by Pau Navarro. This new stand, called "Mercat Negre", offers a unique culinary experience in a lively and welcoming atmosphere. Despite its modest size, the stand offers a wide variety of options to satisfy any diner's palate. In addition, the menu is updated daily depending on the fresh products available in the market and the chef's preferences.
But what's behind the name "Mercat Negre"? The inspiration comes from the popular restaurant "Clandestí Taller Gastronòmic", led by chef Pau Navarro. He has created this innovative tapas concept centered on fresh seafood that he personally buys at the market. Attention to detail and commitment to the quality of ingredients make "Mercat Negre" a unique place to enjoy a delicious meal and satisfy the senses.
Santa Catalina in Palma's trendy area
So, Santa Catalina used to be just a simple fishing district, but about ten years ago, some young architects realized how cool it could be and they renovated the houses. And now, it's super trendy and a lot of people come from all over the island to check it out.
The market is between Placa Progreso and Viá Argentina and it's like the prettiest market in the capital. They used to only sell local stuff, but now they've got all kinds of fancy international things mixed in with the fruits and veggies. And the people who sell stuff there are all fancy too, they know how to cater to the high-end customers. So, you can find everything there that you need for a fancy meal, even really good wine. And speaking of wine, they've got this cool thing where you can get it straight from the barrel - it's called *a granel* in Spanish. That's like a tradition that's coming back, and it's not too expensive either.
Oh, and you gotta check out the oldest bar in the market. It's like a little oasis of calm in the middle of all the hustle and bustle. They serve really yummy tapas that are like, truly Mallorcan. It's called *La Frau* and you don't wanna miss it.
